Our newest red wine is something special, and something that we bet all of our red wine-loving followers in Shanghai have been waiting for a long time.
The 2010 Vinea Familiae Brunello di Montalcino (¥480) is a classic Brunello, exquisitely rich and full-bodied with aromas of cherry, dark plum and violet and notes of black fruit and cocoa.
Brunello wines are among the best in Italy. No exaggeration. Brunello di Montalcino is native to the Tuscany town of Montalcino which enjoys incredible views of the Tuscan valleys. It’s known as one of the finest ways to enjoy Italian Sangiovese grapes.
The grapes’ thick skins pass on a big, bold fruitiness, a rich acidity and high amount of tannins that carry herbaceous notes of oregano, balsamic vinegar and flavors of cherry and leather. Over time these features soften and smooth out into a heavenly, silky mixture of fig, sweet tobacco and espresso. Most believe a Brunello will reach it’s full potential after a decade or so.
That’s why the vintage you see at the top of this page is 2010 – it’s worth the wait.
This one was created by Vinea Familiae, a second brand of the esteemed Tenute Silvio Nardi winery. All of their wines are produced entirely with the Nardi family estate. It’s one of the largest privately owned vineyards in Montalcino. Silvio Nardi began purchasing Montalcino vineyards in the 1950s, going on co-found the Consortium of Brunello wine, a free association of Brunello producers that aims to maintain the quality of the wines in the region.
