Pick the right wines
You should love the wines that you present at the tasting. But, beyond that, the best wine tastings usually have some sort of common theme. It doesn’t have to be complicated; it could be various wines from one region, one grape variety from different regions or even something as simple as a bunch of red or white wines that each come from a different country. Ultimately, tastings with a theme feel at once more fun and more enlightening.

A little food is necessary for a wine tasting, but you don’t want to be eating a whole meal. Think classic wine pairing bites like cheese, cured meats and bread with a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar. You can also keep plain items like crackers on hand to cleanse the palate between glasses.
Drink in the Right Order
The ideal order of the tasting should start at light and elegant and move gradually to an ending that’s more robust and rich. Start with sparkling, then white, then rosé, then red and finally on to sweet dessert wines (if you’re including them). Not only does this simply feel logical, it’s also the best way for guests to really appreciate all the flavors without one wine overwhelming another.
Get your supplies in order
Pro tip: having a few basic wine gadgets on deck is one of the easiest things to forget, but will make a wine tasting run far more smoothly and feel far more professional. These are things like decanters for those richer reds, a consistent set of wine glasses and cups to act as personal spittoons.
